An important question today is: How can we use the unique insights and intersectional methods of feminism to respond to the complexities of the contemporary polycrisis?
The “real-timeness”, “in-your-faceness” of our current lived experiences make encountering multiple-layers of crises almost unavoidable.. However, where there are crises there are also poly-opportunities; and so grassroots mobilization persists, leveraging arts, culture, and community-led monitoring to preserve spaces for pluralistic dialogue and debate. The “how” of this in feminist work, especially African feminist work, is what this presentation addresses.
Akosua Adomako Ampofo is Professor of African and Gender Studies at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana (UG). She considers herself an activist scholar, and at the heart of her work are questions of identity and power—within families, institutions, political and religious spaces, and the knowledge industry. Her areas of interest include African Knowledge systems; Higher education; Race and Identity Politics; Gender relations; Masculinities; and Popular Culture.
